Humanoid Robots Head to Mass Production
New Orders for SMT Factories,
Hold a Big Test for Solder Paste Management
HUMANOID ROBOT × SMT |
In the 2026 SMT world, humanoid robots are undeniably the strongest breakout dark horse. Unitree's bionic bipedal robots have cumulatively rolled off the line 18,000 units, while AGIBOT's embodied robots have seen deliveries exceed 20,000 units, and analysts forecast full-year domestic shipments approaching 40,000 units, with 2030 figures expected to reach as high as 380,000 units
What followed was surging PCB demand—a single humanoid robot requires 35–42 PCBs of different functions, from main control boards and joint driver boards to sensor control boards. With many categories and volumes ramping up in tiers, this sends a fresh wave of growth dividends to upstream SMT factories.

But many factories only discover after taking the order: the manufacturing logic of robot PCBs is nothing like that of traditional consumer electronics. Many models, small batches, fast changeovers, high reliability—and every one of these becomes a new test once it reaches the basic step of solder paste management.
01 | WHY IT HURTS Why do humanoid robot PCB orders stump veteran SMT makers? |
In consumer electronics, one or two solder pastes did the job—large volumes, few batches, easy to manage. But humanoid robot orders, from prototyping ramp-up to mass production, challenge the traditional solder paste management model at every turn:
Mixed material types sharply raise the risk of mix-ups
A single robot needs dozens of PCBs, calling for different solder pastes, red glue, and solder balls, with high-temp and low-temp solders each playing their part. Stored jumbled together in a traditional refrigerator, a moment's carelessness during a changeover grabs the wrong type—and using the wrong solder means failed joints at best, whole batches scrapped at worst, with heavy losses.
Frequent batch changeovers quietly push losses up
Orders scale from hundreds in prototyping to thousands in ramp-up—many batches, small volumes each. Manual management can hardly enforce first-in-first-out strictly, so old batches pile up and eventually expire; with frequent model changeovers, material counting and ledger records can't keep pace, and losses quietly exceed budget.
High reliability demands leave no room for 'experience-based' processes
Robots must run reliably over the long term, so solder joints face industrial-grade demands for vibration resistance, fatigue life, and durability. If solder paste storage temperature control is unstable and warming and stirring depend on a worker's feel, every cartridge ends up in a different state, soldering yield swings up and down, and mass-production consistency is simply out of reach.
Strict traceability requirements—paper ledgers can't keep up
OEMs are ever stricter about full-chain supply chain traceability: which batch each solder paste cartridge was used in, which board it maps to, and when it went online must all be precisely traceable. Relying purely on manual bookkeeping, errors and omissions are the norm; when a customer audits your plant and you can't produce a complete chain record, even the best order struggles to pass qualification review.
02 | SUNNTOL SOLUTION Manage solder paste well to capture the humanoid robot mass-production dividend |
When orders shift from 'prototyping' to 'mass production,' what counts isn't just capacity, but the standardization and controllability of every step. The SUNNTOL smart solder paste cabinet is purpose-built for multi-variety, high-reliability, fully traceable production scenarios, turning solder paste management from an experience-based job into a standardized one.
✓ Mixed-material management, no matter how many models It supports mixed storage of solder paste, red glue, syringe paste, solder balls and other material forms, with independent slots and one-code-per-cartridge identity labeling; a robotic arm precisely locates and retrieves each item, fundamentally eliminating mix-ups and misuse. Fast changeovers across many batches and models are handled with ease. |
✓ Precise temperature control + standard processes for stable, controllable quality The entire line uses a dual-loop refrigeration design with a standard condensate evaporation system, keeping cabinet temperature uniform with no blind spots and locking in solder paste activity. The system supports scheduled warming in advance; when the time comes, the robotic arm automatically transfers and stirs, with rotation speed and duration precisely parameterized. Every cartridge follows an identical standard process, soldering yield stays stable and controllable, and the demanding reliability requirements of robot products are fully met. |
✓ Enforced FIFO to bring losses down The robotic arm intelligently schedules slots and strictly enforces FIFO first-in-first-out, prioritizing older batches for use and preventing stockpiling and expiry. Even small-batch, multi-batch ramp-up orders keep material losses to a minimum. |
✓ Full-chain automatic traceability for easy audit passes All operations are automatically logged, inventory status is visualized in real time, data can be analyzed and exported, and the system integrates seamlessly with MES / ERP. From inbound, storage, and warming to withdrawal, the entire chain is searchable and traceable; the relevant batch or work order is retrieved with one click, customer audits are passed with ease, and you take on premium orders with more confidence. |

The dividend is only for factories that are fully prepared
The humanoid robot mass-production wave is bringing a new round of growth opportunities to the SMT industry. Yet the dividend only ever goes to factories that are fully prepared—the newer the track and the newer the product, the more it tests the management precision of the basic steps.
Do the 'small thing' of solder paste management solidly, and line yield stabilizes, material losses drop, and the traceability system runs smoothly—only then can you stand firm on this new track and capture the dividend.
